I like to think he was a Guardian before Guardians were a thing though. Fear keeps people safe. So he’s running around being all “Weh I am a bad guy look at me Manny. NOTICE ME. I’M EVIL NOTICE MEEEE” and Man in Moon is just like “Lol whatever Pitch you’re so adorable just keep making nightmares you precious little Angst Machine”.
